Actor and singer Prashant Tamang, celebrated as the winner of Indian Idol 3 and for his role in Paatal Lok Season 2, died on Sunday after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 43 years old.
The news was confirmed by close friend and singer Mahesh Sewa. Sewa told PTI that Tamang passed away at his residence in Delhi’s Janak Puri. “He passed away this morning around 9 am due to cardiac arrest at his residence,” Sewa stated.
Sewa added that Tamang was taken to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The family is currently deciding between holding the funeral in Delhi or his hometown of Darjeeling.
From Police Service to Stardom
Born in Darjeeling on January 4, 1983, Prashant Tamang initially served in the West Bengal Police. His life changed when he participated in and won the 2007 season of Indian Idol. This victory launched his career in entertainment.
He first released a music album, Dhanyavaad, before transitioning to acting. His debut was in the 2010 Nepali film Gorkha Paltan. Tamang went on to star in several other movies, including Angalo Yo Maya Ko and Nishani. His recent notable appearance was in the second season of the acclaimed web series Paatal Lok. His final film, Battle of Galwan, is scheduled for release on April 17.
